Located in Chelan County, our District is made up of the communities of Dryden, Peshastin, Lake Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Plain, Lower Blewett and Winton.  We are geographically one of the largest districts in the state reaching from the top of Stevens Pass (US Hwy 2) throughout Lake Wenatchee and share borders to the east with the City of Cashmere. 

Leavenworth is located in a semi-arid region, with an average rainfall of 9 inches.  Ample sunshine is an attractive feature of the area, with most of the total rain/snowfall coming during a six month period from November through April.  The mild winter and abundance of sunshine during the growing season (average of 140 frost-free days per year) provide excellent condition for agricultural production.  Regionally the #1 grower for organic pears and numerous orchards of pears, apples, peaches, apricots, cherries, plums and some for local wineries.

The terrain within the city is flat, valley floor.  Gentle slopes of 11-25 degrees and steep slopes of 25-45 degrees surround the city.  The elevation of Leavenworth is 1,166 feet above sea level, while the nearby mountains rise between 5,000 and 8,000 feet.  Originally in 1903 as a small timber community, the area grew into the second largest sawmill in the state of Washington and headquarters for the Great Northern Railroad.  Leavenworth became officically incorporated in 1906.  When the railroad relocated to Wenatchee in the 1920's it impacted the Leavenworth economy.  In 1962, the town began a revitalization to create a Bavarian village to boost it's economy.  It has thrived into the "Ultimate Holiday Town".
