Weather-related Delays or Closure Information

If inclement winter weather conditions exist that require a delayed opening or closure of school, determinations will be made by 6 am.

Then notifications are sent to:
  - Parents via text messaging
  - On CSD website and Facebook pages

You can also call the recorded Snow Line at 509-888-2873. Remember, if there is a delay, there is no morning preschool.

Now is the time to make sure your student’s emergency contact information is up-to-date. Check with your school office to make sure we have accurate information on file.

How and when will you find out if school is late or closed?

Remind Text Notification: Please make sure the cell phone you have provided to your school is up-to-date

How does the school district decide whether to close or delay school?
Our transportation department checks the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) weather updates as well as the county for road conditions. The CSD Transportation Director drives bus routes to evaluate road conditions and contacts the superintendent by 6 AM. The superintendent makes the final decision as to whether schools stay on schedule or close.

Why would the district delay the start of school?
Delaying school gives the Transportation Department time to dig out buses if needed, our school parking lots and sidewalks to be cleared and sanded and for the county road departments to clear the roads. All of our buses are equipped with auto-chain systems.

The decision to delay or close school is not taken lightly. It’s disruptive for working parents that have to come up with a plan for the care of children. We recommend families of young children develop a backup plan in the event that schools are closed and students need to transition to online learning.

Questions? Call the Transportation Department at (509) 548-6039. The office opens at 5:30 AM.
